 Zaragoza/Zaragosa
« Thread Started on Apr 12, 2008, 3:03pm »

This is an Far East El Paso phenomenon. Street signs and businesses can't seem to agree on the proper spelling. The Zaragoza Center is across the street from the street sign that says Zaragosa. Confusing.

Ken, we must be neighbors!

I noticed the same thing! I think it's supposed to be Z and z. But could be wrong.

You mean the Eastside is getting everything except proper spelling?

El Paso can only grow so far west and north(east). Eastside is where it's at my friend!:)

Then may we be very wise in maintaining that growth. Yes, you have growth potential but then you also have some "leadership" growth to do as well. You might reconsider being more in the spot light of local politics my friend. We need your wit and common sense approach.

Zaragoz(s)a is now the eastern City limit. Ground to the east is being cleared. FAST

Zaragoza = legitimate Spanish spelling of the word;
Zaragosa = bastardized English spelling.

Okay, since I live near the road, I drove down it yesterday and saw that Ken was right, it's about half and half with the spelling. There is even one intersection, at Saul Kleinfeld that has both spellings. One of the road signs has the z spelling and on the other side of the street it is the s spelling. I am talking pics later today and will post them on my blog.

Of course, I will credit Ken with noticing it! lol.

KenG

went to the corner of Saul Klienfeld and took some pics of the two signs on the same corner with the different spellings. It's posted on my blog.

Exactly why I suggested that the soccer fields that were finally going to be built should be built on the Eastside of town. I understand why council did what they did but Joyce Wilson's comment that the East Side has all the soccer fields it needs does not take into account the Eastsides continued explosive growth. The number of soccer fields may have been adequate last month but in the coming year a deficit will surely develop and get worse as time moves on.

Can't help but point out that further Park development is going to have to occur on the East side of town.

Some of us have been on the Eastside about the time they invented dirt and the z/s issue is just about that old. Here's the official story;

Zaragoza is the spelling on all filed property documents.
Zaragosa is the spelling assigned by the post office.

and we wonder why we never seem to get our mail.

Tell us Dot, do you get upset when people try to "connect you"?

Actually, it annoys me when people fail to "connect the dots". Everyone is speculating about Barbara Perez's departure from 1650, but no one on this forum has mentioned the public corruption case. Anyone who has read one of her campaign finance reports can see that she's been very involved with the individuals in question. And if that wasn't enough, there were ethics problems all over the place with the Big League Dreams deal (not just ours but in other cities as well).

I just think its hilarious that the street signs have both spellings depending on the intersection. Or in the case of the Saul Kleinfeld, BOTH spellings can be seen on the street signs at that intersection.

I've been living here now for nearly 28 years and during that time people have yet to figure out which was right be it Zaragoza or Zaragosa. It's something I don't think that El Paso will ever figure out.

Of course Zaragosa with the s is the bastardized english version. kinda like gonzalez or gonzales - gosh, i'm confused. there are so many things spelled incorrectly it's incredible, but it seems like them official folks should get it together. i've lived all over this city, and most recently in horizon. the amount of growth is gross. slap 'em up, and people will move in. traffic is getting worse, and if you like new houses that all look the same, more power to ya.

This won't be resolved until the post office and county records decide which one will be the official version.

The 79936/38 is totally confused by all the new construction. You can now go east from Zaragoza on Edgemere the road wasn't even there six months ago. They are outside the City limits and the houses are packed pretty tightly. There are even some with single car garages!

You'll find the same thing in the Hambric area (inbound side of Joe Battle between Edgemere and Montana).
